“Last night’s demonstration was not peaceful; rather, it was violent. To put it simply, “Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr stated on Monday. “We will not accept property destruction, and we will work to hold individuals who have engaged in this illegal activity responsible to the fullest extent of the law.”

“Not only will this cutting-edge Public Training Safety Center help Police officers, firemen, and EMTs, but the whole community,” Carr stated.

“We fully support its construction and operation, and We won’t give up in the face of violent fanatics from Georgia, Maine, Oregon, and other states which aim to derail us.”

Carr called those detained as part of a “national network, an international group of folks organized to come to our state to destabilize a public safety training facility” on Fox News earlier Monday.

Notwithstanding Carr’s mention of Oregon, none of the 23 people accused in Sunday’s event are from that state. Authorities initially stated that 35 “agitators” had been apprehended.

This wasn’t a place to train for public safety. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the FBI have joined the investigation into the incident, according to Atlanta Chief of Police Darin Schierbaum, who told reporters on the scene that it was about chaos and an attempt to destabilize.

Though protests have been ongoing at the 85-acre DeKalb County site, which was acquired for a $90 million Police and Fire training complex, Schierbaum said Sunday’s event represented a “dramatic escalation” in both the amount of violence and the number of people engaged in the attack.

Before Sunday, at least 19 individuals have been detained and charged with domestic terrorism concerning protests at the “Cop City” site since December.

Six of the 19 arrests were made due to a deadly riot in downtown Atlanta on January 21 due to the Georgia State Patrol fatally shooting 26-year-old environmental activist Manuel Esteban Paez Teran.
