Beginning his career in Tamil cinema in the early 1970s, Manobala received a valuable reference from Kamal Haasan, leading him to become an assistant director for Bharathiraja’s 1979 film Puthiya Vaarpugal.

Manobala’s debut on stage was in the 1979 film Puthiya Vaarpugal. Throughout his career, he appeared in several popular films.

With over 800 film appearances, around 40 directorial credits, and a few productions under his own Company, Manobala is known for his exceptional comedic timing. He has been honored with the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Comedian and other accolades.

How Did Manobala Die?

On May 3, 2023, Manobala died at his Chennai residence due to liver issues at 69.

In January, he underwent an angio-treatment after experiencing chest pain. The post-mortem examination confirmed that liver problems caused his death.

He was initially admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai and later shifted to his residence in Saligramam. Despite being unwell for fifteen days, he stopped responding to treatment and passed away in the afternoon.

Following the news, many individuals from the Tamil industry and fans expressed their sympathies on Twitter.

Rajinikanth, who had acted in Manobala’s directorial venture Oorkavalan, also took to Twitter to mourn his friend’s loss and offer condolences to his family.
