Stephen Smith murder case has recently gotten new attention. He died from a hit-and-run incident in which Buster Murdaugh was engaged in 2015. 

Stephen Smith was a 19-year-old boy. He was pursuing a nursing degree to become a doctor at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.

He ran out of gas on his way home from school on July 8, 2015. His vehicle was abandoned with the gas cap off in Hampton County, South Carolina.

Stephen Smith’s body was discovered in the middle of the road three miles away, with no skid marks or other visible signs that a car had struck him.

The death cause was determined to be a hit-and-run, but his mother, Sandy Smith, was there at the unveiling. She has always felt he was killed. 

Additionally, his mother hired a private detective to investigate the situation. He concluded that a hit-and-run was unlikely given the location of the body in the road and the wounds Smith sustained. 

Since then, she has been looking for solutions.

Although evidence in Stephen’s case was discovered during the inquiry into the killings of Maggie & Paul Murdaugh, those findings, according to People, were never disclosed.

Nevertheless, it appears that everything has stayed the same since the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division opened the case in June 2021. It was verified that the probe is still ongoing in January 2023.

Sandy, Stephen’s mother, reportedly wants to learn more about her son’s passing during Alex Murdaugh’s trial.

Additionally, she claims to have rejected down offers for a book deal and even a Netflix movie about the case. She merely desires to identify the killer of her child.

On the other hand, Buster Murdaugh was involved in the terrible hit-and-run that killed Stephen Smith.

Once the Netflix series Murdaugh Murders premiered, Stephen Smith’s case has once again been in the news spotlight.
