The discovery of Carter’s dismembered body has sent shockwaves through the community. His family and friends are still reeling from the loss and are seeking answers.

They have called for a federal investigation. Carter’s family believes that his death may have been racially motivated, given that he reported fearing for his safety to the Taylorsville Police Department a day before his disappearance.

Carter’s death is not an isolated incident. The United States has a long history of violence against Black people, with many cases going unsolved or unreported.

According to data from the Mapping Police Violence project, Black people are three times more likely to be killed by Police than white people. This disparity highlights the systemic racism within law enforcement and the justice system.

Carter’s death underscores the urgent need to address these issues and hold those responsible accountable. It’s unclear why local Police didn’t consider foul play in Carter’s death.

Still, the family’s call for a federal investigation suggests they don’t trust the local authorities to handle the case properly. Unfortunately, this lack of trust in law enforcement is not uncommon.

Carter’s family and their supporters are rightfully demanding justice for his murder. They want whoever is responsible for being held accountable for their heinous act.

It’s noteworthy that Carter’s family believes his killing may have been racially motivated. This is a profoundly troubling possibility that should not be ignored.

The fact that Carter went to the Police and reported that he feared for his safety because of men who were after him only adds to the suspicion that his murder was a hate crime.

It’s too early to say for sure whether or not Carter’s murder was racially motivated. But regardless of the motive, the fact remains that a young man was brutally killed, and his killer or killers are still at large.

The Smith County Sheriff’s Department must do everything possible to find and apprehend this crime’s perpetrator. And if they are unwilling or unable to do so, the Justice Department should step in and take over the investigation.
