Mark Muffley was arrested at the Pennsylvanian airport’s Lehigh Valley International for attempting to pack an explosive device in his checked baggage.

According to federal investigators, a man was detained after an explosive was discovered in a checked suitcase at Lehigh Valley International Airport.

During a regular luggage search, Muffley was apprehended immediately after the device was discovered.

According to an affidavit, Mark Muffley of Lansford, Pennsylvania, was charged with possessing an explosive in an airport and possessing, attempting to place, or attempting to have placed an explosive or incendiary device aboard an aircraft at Lehigh Valley International Airport on Monday.

Muffley was charged with attempting to board an airplane with an explosive or incendiary device. He had presumably hidden the gadget in his checked luggage and sought to avoid detection by airport security. It’s unclear what Muffley’s motivations were or where he planned to visit.

But, while the TSA was screening the luggage, an alarm signaled the presence of questionable materials.

The TSA then called the Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority Police Department, who contacted the FBI and other special agents to investigate the contents of the luggage.

Officials said the black and flash powder “are sensitive to ignite from heat and friction. They constituted a considerable criminal complaint stating, “danger to the aircraft and passengers.

SA According to the affidavit, Jared Witmier has over 19 years of expertise and has been a certified public safety bomb technician for over three years.

Witmier x-rayed the circular compound buried in the luggage lining and discovered a granular form of powder secreted beneath the wax paper of the plastic wrap. The granular powder is thought to be a blend of flash powder and black granular, both of which are used in commercial-grade pyrotechnics.

The Transportation Safety Administration called the FBI for help on Monday, Feb. 27, after discovering what appeared explosive in luggage checked in by Muffley on Flight 201 destined for Orlando Sanford International Airport in Florida.

Through LVI’s public address system, Muffley was paged at 11:40 am after TSA spotted the device and asked to go to the airport’s security desk. He was caught by surveillance cameras exiting the airport at the lower-level exit five minutes later.

The probe required the evacuation of the airport’s near vicinity. The FBI apprehended Muffley at his home on Monday night. He is still being held.

There will be a hearing to determine Muffley’s detention bail and probable cause in Allentown on Thursday at 1:30 pm, with him participating by video conference.

According to the affidavit, the luggage included a bottle of butane, a lighter, a pipe covered with white powder, a cordless drill, and two GFCI outlets bound with black tape.

The special agent also discovered a “fast fuse” and a “hobby fuse” in the facility. According to the affidavit, the powder inside the device is prone to igniting due to heat and friction, posing a severe risk to the aircraft and passengers.

The chemical retrieved was a live explosive device, according to FBI and local law enforcement bomb specialists.
