Khalil Azad Justice: On Monday, Khalil Azad’s family, along with hundreds of students, gathered for a rally, raising concerns about his death after Robbinsdale Police pursued him in July 2022.
Following a Police pursuit last summer where Khalil Ahmad Azad reportedly fled after crashing an SUV, bodycam footage was released this Tuesday, March 7, that showed officers searching for Azad.
According to Police, Khalil Azad was driving a white SUV when he fled from officers, went in the opposite direction of traffic, crashed into a ditch, and finally collided at the 3900 block of Lakeland Avenue North near Highway 81.
After fleeing into a wooded area along the shoreline, Khalil Azad was reportedly not found by the Police. However, on the afternoon of July 5, a passerby discovered Azad’s body in Crystal Lake, as per the Police report.
Khalil Azad Justice: Family Mourns The Death
Before the release of the tape, more than 100 people, consisting of Khalil Azad’s family members, students, and led by the Minnesota Teen Activists group, gathered outside the U.S. Bank Stadium to commence their rally.
In search of Khalil Azad Justice, they are calling for an unbiased investigation into all the agencies involved and requesting an independent review of the policies and practices of the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Jerome Richardson, the Executive director of Minnesota Teen Activists, said they were pleased to be present with numerous students and more individuals en route.
He noted that they had gathered to demand justice for Khalil Amad Azad and to seek answers about his tragic incident on July 3rd, 2022.
During the rally on Monday, Ayisha Johnson, the sister of Khalil Azad, spoke about the ongoing pain that the family feels due to his death, including the fact that his daughter was born just two months after he passed away.
Students expressed their desire for law enforcement to release all video recordings from the Police chase, including footage from body cameras, dash cameras, traffic lights, and helicopters.

Khalil Azad Autopsy And Dead Body Photos
The autopsy was performed on Khalil Azad’s body shortly after the tragic incident. According to Sahan Journal, his autopsy report was presented to the Police officers and family involved on October 2022.
According to the Police, Azad evaded contact with any officer or Police dog after running away.
However, In a statement released on Feb. 25, 2023, Black Lives Matter Minnesota disputed the findings of the Police and medical examiner, citing autopsy photos that showed Khalil Azad had alleged canine bites on his face not included in the final report.
Khalil Azad’s family has expressed doubt over the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s conclusion that he died of freshwater drowning, citing his claimed ability to swim.
Ayisha Johnson, Khalil Azad’s sister, asserted that action must be taken upon viewing the autopsy photos.
Minnesota Teen Activists are calling for an external investigation into the conduct of Robbinsdale Police, the medical examiner, and the suspension of all K-9 units in the state.

In response to the release of the footage on March 7, Khalil Azad’s family and three community activist groups immediately published a letter expressing their views.
The family of Azad alleges that the footage illustrates the presence of several other officers at the site, which is contrary to what was mentioned in the Police report.
Additionally, they were presented with all the footage in a grid layout, making it hard to watch.
The family of Khalil Azad, in a statement, demanded complete transparency about the agencies called to secure the perimeter, including Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department, New Hope, Crystal, Plymouth, and State Trooper Patrol.
