Joshua claimed in an interview he gave the British news organization the Press Association last year that he was raised a Christian but did not adhere to any particular religion.

But numerous users on Twitter criticized him for associating himself with Islam. Anthony Joshua stressed the importance of Islam in his life in the days of his victory over Andy Ruiz Jr. on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia.

Joshua beat Ruiz in a competitive rematch by a majority decision to become history’s second world heavyweight champion.

The world was shocked when Ruiz knocked out Joshua in June, but this time, the British boxer battled shrewdly behind his jab, outpointing the Mexican-American to win back his IBF, WBA, and WBO titles. After the victory, Joshua recognized Islam’s impact on his life.

After his parents separated when he was 12, he moved back to the UK and enrolled at Kings Langley Secondary School in the middle of Year 7.

Growing up on the Meriden Estate in Garston, Hertfordshire, his second name, Oluwafemi, led to him being referred to as “Femi” by his peers and former teachers.

He excelled in football and other sports, running the Year Nine 100-meter sprint in 11.6 seconds to beat the school record.

Does he involve in any controversies?

Joshua faced censure for a series of incidents in November 2017. He called Eddie Chambers, a heavyweight boxer, a “disgrace to the superior black race” on Instagram.

Joshua’s boss, Eddie Hearn, asserted that the message had been sent from a phony account. Still, Chambers demonstrated that it had been forwarded from Joshua’s legitimate account, refuting Hearn’s false assertion.

Joshua later sought to support Zimbabwean despot Robert Mugabe on Snapchat. Later, Hearn claimed that Joshua “has a major problem with his social media accounts,” speculating that the accounts may have been compromised.

Joshua was charged with racism in June 2020 after saying,

“Show them where it hurts, abstain from spending your money in their shops and economies, and invest in black-owned businesses.”

This presented a problem to some who wanted to cease doing business with white people. He retorted that the remark was not his own and that he had only read it publicly on behalf of a friend.
