The news of Angus Collins death shocked everyone. He was killed by a concrete truck in Melbourne, Australia, while participating in a training ride.
Angus Collins, 22, was struck on Thursday just before 12:30 pm at Dock Link and Footscray Road. Collins was a talented race track racer who won the Tour of the South West and excelled in points contests.
Collins was also at ease racing on the road. He also trained to become a sports physiologist at the Victorian Institute for Sport while coaching elite cyclists.
According to his LinkedIn page, Collins was a trainee psychologist at the Victorian Institute of Sport pursuing a dual degree in sports science and business at Deakin University.
He described himself as a “passionate coach of elite road riders with experience as a state and national level road cyclist” in his bio.

Who Was Angus collins?
Cycle Racer Angus Collins was born on 1st September 2000 in Australia. Angus graduated from Williamstown High School in 2018; he majored in sports science and management/business at Deakin University.
He also trained adult hopefuls and professional road cyclists while working as a trainee physiologist at the Victorian Institute of Sport.
Angus was a gifted cyclist who competed on the road and the track at the state, national, and Pacific levels.
He won sixth place in the Australian National Criterium Championships, and at the Toowoomba 2016 National Road Championships, he led the state team as team captain.

On Thursday, February 2, a 22-year-old elite amateur bike racer, Angus Collins, was killed by a concrete truck while on a training ride in Melbourne, Australia.
Even though the truck driver stopped to assist and paramedics arrived shortly, Collins died on the scene.
The collision occurred at a dangerous blind intersection where bikers and motorists cannot see one other until it is too late to react. Federal officials have now sought an investigation.
The Bicycle Network has written to Victoria’s Minister for Road Safety, urging that left turns at the intersection be prohibited immediately until Footscray Road construction is completed.
John Symons, president of the advocacy group Bike West, claimed the junction was ripe for a collision. He asked that the traffic signal sequence at the intersection be changed to make cycling safer.
He recommended strategies like providing pedestrians and cyclists a head start or putting a left turn arrow to stop cars from making that turn when bikes had the right of way.

As part of the West Gate Tunnel Project, a 2.5-kilometer cycling slowly would be constructed above Footscray Road, removing six cycling crossings, including the Footscray Road/Dock Link intersection.
The project was slated to be finished in 2025. A state official stated that our condolences are with the cyclist’s family and friends affected by last week’s tragedy.
The Victoria Police have promised to cooperate with the Department of Transport and the West Gate Tunnel Project as they investigate this incident and consider any recommendations for strengthening road safety.
The Victorian Greens urged the government to quickly establish a parliamentary investigation into the safety of cyclists on the roads on Monday.
Tributes to the cyclist who died in the Footscray truck crash
The Brunswick Cycling Club has put up a GoFundMe page to collect funds, which will be provided to the Collins family to assist with the funeral and other costs.
The family has recommended the Amy Gillett Foundation, which works to lessen bicycle-related fatalities and injuries on Australian roads.
After the crash, the truck driver pulled over and assisted law enforcement with their inquiries. Even though Police are investigating, no charges have been filed.
In the wake of Collins’ passing, the Victorian Greens encouraged the state government to launch a legislative investigation into bicycle road safety.
