Phil Collins was born on January 30, 1951, at Putney Hospital in Wandsworth, in the south-western part of London.

His father, Greville Philip Austin Collins (1907–1972), was an insurance agent for London Assurance.

Similarly, his mother, Winifred June Collins (née Strange, 1913–2011), initially worked in a toy shop before becoming a booking agent at the Barbara Speake Stage School.

This independent performing arts school is located in East Acton.

Both parents encouraged Phil’s musical pursuits and provided him with instruments, including a toy drum kit, at a young age.

Further, Phil’s mother, Winifred, having worked in the acting world, also helped Phil develop his stage presence and confidence.
