According to authorities, the leading cause for the MLA’s arrest was the voice quality of the recorded discussion in which he sought payment from the complainant, Pritpal Kumar.

According to the complaint, Kotfatta demanded Rs 5 lakh as a bribe in exchange for releasing a grant of Rs 25 lakh for development work in Ghudda village, where Kumar’s wife, Seema Rani, serves as sarpanch.

Kumar stated that he sought the MLA when the Sangat block’s block development panchayat officer (BDPO) refused to provide the monies.

Kotfatta joined the Shiromani Akali Dal in 2016 and ran for the Bathinda Rural seat in the 2017 Assembly elections. He was defeated by Rupinder Kaur Ruby, a first-time AAP candidate, by a margin of 10,718 votes.

Even though the MLA was first questioned, only Reshim was charged. Surprisingly, the MLA rejected the “news on social media” that Garg was his Assistant (PA), claiming that he had nothing to do with Garg.

He urged a thorough investigation into the situation, alleging that the opposition was attempting to slander him and the Bhagwant Mann government.

On February 16, shortly after the bribe money was found from Garg, the Punjab government took the initiative to assist the legislators via their official Twitter handle.

When it comes to the Bathinda Rural seat in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has constantly been embroiled in controversy.

Kotfatta joined the Shiromani Akali Dal in 2016 and ran for the Bathinda Rural seat in the 2017 Assembly elections. He was defeated by Rupinder Kaur Ruby, a first-time AAP candidate, by a margin of 10,718 votes.

In January 2022, the AAP welcomed him into its ranks and named him the Bathinda Rural candidate.

The decision received harsh condemnation from Punjab AAP founding members, including Baldev Singh, a retired class 1 officer who joined the AAP in 2016 shortly after retiring from the Industries department.

Punjab went to the elections on February 20, 2022, and SAD officials, particularly president Sukhbir Singh Badal, claimed throughout the Campaign that the AAP had picked as a candidate someone they had fired on suspected corruption accusations.

The Bharti Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan’s Sangat block members staged a dharna outside Kotfatta’s residence in Bathinda for over three days, embarrassing the AAP.

Protesters said that in 2017, Rattan commissioned a study of young people and did not compensate them for their time.
