Zach Edey was born on May 14, 2002, in Toronto, Canada, to his mother, Julia Edey, and father, Glen Edey.

Julia was one of five kids raised in a working-class home in Toronto that runs a family-run Chinese takeout restaurant.

Edey switched to a starter position to start his second year in college.
He had a then-career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds in 20 minutes against Wisconsin on January 3, 2022, a 74-69 loss.
In a 68-65 loss to Michigan State on February 26, 2022, Edey scored a career-high 25 points in 22 minutes.
In just 19 minutes per game, he averaged 14.4 points, 1.1 assists, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks as a sophomore, setting career highs in all but free throw percentage.
Zach was selected for the Second Team All-Big Ten when the season was over.
On December 17, 2022, he passed the milestones of becoming the 11th player in Purdue history to accomplish 100 career blocks and the 55th overall to reach 1,000 career points.
