Former professional football player John Harston is from Wales. He was born in Swansea on April 5, 1975.

John was a West Ham United and Arsenal striker in the Premier League and Celtic in the Scottish Premier League.

At sixteen, he enrolled in Luton Town’s Youth Training Scheme but was expelled four months later for stealing a bank card from the son of a couple with whom he was staying.

In 2009, Hartson received the tragic news that his Cancer had progressed to his lungs and brain.

Moreover, He underwent two brain operations, 67 rounds of chemotherapy, and suffered a loss of appetite, hair, and almost five stone in weight.

The initial life-extending therapy paved the way for his eventual remission and miraculous survival.

As John Hartson recalls the day in Swansea in July when he first faced the reality of Cancer, his eyes shine as he says, “I broke my heart in that hospital parking park.”

“It was a typical day outdoors, but I was alone in my car, sobbing uncontrollably. My doctor also made the diagnosis and took me to the hospital.

My ex-girlfriend Sarah, now my wife, and I eventually spoke on the phone to share the good news.

She also began crying, and it wasn’t very good. I had long suspected something, and now it was confirmed. I had Cancer.” says John Hartson.

Hartson experienced “a blinding headache” one hour after learning he had stage-four Cancer. Nothing could relieve the pain, which persisted for days.

When Hartson was capable of it, he had intensive chemotherapy. Over three months, he had 67 sessions.

Before John Hartson’s illness, he moved from Luton to Arsenal and became the most expensive adolescent in British football.

Additionally, the former striker, who made 51 appearances for Wales, suffered a strange golf buggy accident in 2018, which necessitated 48 stitches to the top of his head.

When a golf buggy driver pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, Hartson was a passenger.

Hartson was thrown out of the buggy and cut open on the metal bar keeping the perspex windscreen in place due to the fast-moving vehicle colliding with the tree.

Following his surgery, Hartson collaborated with KP Nuts to support Movember, a foundation that educates men about their health.

According to KP’s research, one-third of men don’t perform the advised once-a-month lump check.

To raise awareness for testicular Cancer and Prostate Cancer, Hartson was one of eight celebrities who performed the “Full Monty” live on ITV in 2018.

Hartson is gradually rebuilding his destroyed life. Hartson makes a clear connection between his carefree but essentially unthinking footballing days and the ignorance that allowed his sickness to progress as he discusses the horrific way in which Cancer grabbed hold of him.

Hartson moved to West Brom after leaving the team in 2006, spent time on loan at Norwich, and then announced his retirement from the sport.
