She started acting in the early 1960s and performed in Off-Broadway productions. In 1979, she won a Tony Award for her role as Mona Stangley in the original Broadway production of “The Best Little Whorehouse.”
Glynn also appeared in the movie version of the musical in 1982. Apart from Sixteen Candles (1984), Glynn starred in other films like Resurrection (1980), Continental Divide (1981), and The Escape Artist (1982).

Her daughter, Mary Stuart Masterson, both a director and an actress, confirmed the sad news on Instagram. In a heartfelt post, Masterson described her mother as a unique and graceful person, a mix of strength, intelligence, humor, and kindness.
Mary added that Glynn was deeply devoted to her father and had many students and collaborators she considered her chosen family.

Glynn’s first movie role was in the 1975 political thriller “Three Days of the Condor,” where she acted alongside Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway.
Then, only four years later, she made her first appearance on Broadway in “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” and won a special Tony Award for her excellent performance in a musical.
Interestingly, her husband, Peter Masterson, later turned the musical into a movie in 1982 featuring Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton. Carlin Glynn and Peter Masterson were happily married until he passed away in 2018.
