The man she and her colleague were trying to arrest was accused of uttering threats. While they were reading him his rights, he reportedly picked up a sword and struck Breau in the neck. Two other officers at the scene then shot and killed the man.

Is The Suspect Arrested?

The suspect in the death of Sgt. Police killed Maureen Breau at the scene, so he cannot be arrested or charged. The incident is under investigation by the Bureau des enquĂȘtes indĂ©pendantes (BEI), Quebec’s independent investigations bureau.

The BEI is tasked with investigating incidents involving Police officers in the province that result in death, serious injury, or any other circumstances that may raise questions about Police conduct.
