Sanath Nandasiri Death Has shocked many people as the singer recently died after a long illness and was 81 years old.

Sangeeth Nipun Herath Mudiyanselage, Ph.D. Sanath Nandasiri was a vocalist, musician, music director, composer, and playback singer from Sri Lanka. He was the Chancellor of Sri Lanka’s University of Visual and Performing Arts.

Nandasiri made his Sinhala Radio debut at the age of 13 in 1955. At this time, he worked alongside Madawala S Ratnayake, Nanda Jayamanne, Karunaratne Abeysekera, and Sanath Wimalaweera.

He returned to Sri Lanka in 1965, joined the radio, and began his singing career. On September 7, 1967, he was accepted into the Government Institute of Music and began teaching at Uhana Maha Vidyalaya in Ampara. Afterward, he applied for the post of University Lecturer but was not invited for an interview.

Nandasiri is a composer and vocalist who has received several honors for his works for over 60 years. He was also the Chancellor of Sri Lanka’s University of Visual and Performing Arts.

Nandasiri began working in the media industry when he was 13 years old, in 1955. He also sang in over 30 popular Sinhala films, including Ahas Gauva, Duleeka, Sihina Lowak, Bempara Madhu, and Senasuma.

He began his first solo concert, ‘Swarna Kundala,’ in 1974 and has since performed over 250 shows. In 1979, he released his debut full-length album, which bore the same name as his show. His popular songs include “Kisiwak Nokiana” and “Ekodaha Kande.”

Between 1980 and 1981, he released three influential albums in Sri Lanka. He has also performed songs for films directed by Premasiri Kemadasa.

Following the death of the late famous musician Pandit Amaradeva in 2016, he was named Chancellor of the University of Visual and Performing Arts.

Sanath Nandasiri married Malkanthi Abeywardena Balasuriya. Malkanthi is from a well-known musical family in Sri Lanka, and she and her husband have released twelve CDs titled “Abey-Niranjala Vishista Gee.”

She is mourning her husband’s loss and has avoided social media and the press. She has been quite secretive about her personal life and prefers to stay out of the spotlight of her husband’s career and others.

On December 18, 1971, Nandasiri married singer Malkanthi Nandasiri née Peiris. He met Malkanthi in 1967 at a vesak performance named “Mara Parajaya.” 

They worked on songs together before and after their marriage. When their son, Sanjaya Madhava, was born in 1971, he was a typical overweight child and was given the name. 

However, the son died three days later. Nishamani Anuradha, their second child, was born on February 14, 1974. Anuradha, a musician, has returned to Sri Lanka with her spouse.

Sanath Nandasiri Family Explored

Nandasiri was born on February 15, 1942, in Gothatuwa, Sri Lanka, to merchant and construction constructor H. M. William Perera and housewife Dona Amalin Katugampola. 

He had his elementary education at Gothatuwa Maha Vidyalaya and his secondary school at St. Matthew’s College, Dematagoda. He then went to Mahabodhi Maha Vidyalaya for Advanced Level and Stafford College for English.

Throughout his academic years, he excelled as an athlete and Elle player. He was a talented sprinter who won awards in the 100 meters. Nimal Chandrasiri is Nandasiri’s elder sister, elder brother, younger sister, and younger brother.
