Sam Smith Depression has been a topic of discussion among people who have kept the artist near and dear to their hearts. It is not new for a celebrity like Smith to have depression, but it saddens his fans.

Singer-songwriter Samuel Frederick Smith, shortly Sam Smith, hails from England.

Smith first gained fame by appearing on Latch, which peaked at #11 on the UK Singles Chart in October 2012. Disclosure’s chart-topping track Latch made him receive international attention. 

Eventually, he appeared on Naughty Boy’s La La La. The track hit #1 in May 2013.

Smith received Brit Critics’ Choice Award in December 2013. Also, in 2014, he won the BBC’s Sound poll.

Moreover, Smith released his debut studio album, In the Lonely Hour, in May 2014. Capitol Records UK released his first studio album. 

In addition, he is known for his songs, including Stay With Me and I’m Not The Only One. His song Stay With Me has more than 1.1 billion views on YouTube as of this writing.

Also, Smith’s song I’m Not The Only One has at least 1.5 billion views on the platform. His YouTube channel has gained a whopping 16 million subscribers as of this writing.

Famous English singer Sam Smith, 30, was dealing with depression and opened up about the fact during an Apple Music interview in October 2020.

Smith’s followers were shocked as their idol, and their favorite artist went through hard times and made the wrong headlines.

He announced the news during his album, Love Goes, promotion. The singer sadly mentioned his depression, saying:

I always used to be sad, but for the first time I really had mental health problems, mainly depression. I thought it was probably PTSD but it really hit me hard later.

I was a having a really tough time. The high adrenaline you hit when I’m on that stage, come off with the silence in a changing room is very challenging. 

The English singer said that it took him almost six to seven years to work it things that treated his depression. 

Depression can often lead people to a path that won’t make the condition go but deteriorate.

Smith publicly spilled the truth about his depression. His loved ones and followers tried to match the sentiments, wailing about his condition.

I’m Not The Only One singer revealed that he had been “hit hard” by mental health issues. Possibly, he suffered from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). 

In an Apple Music interview, Smith spoke to Zane Lowe, saying he had panic attacks, severe anxiety, and depression. He said, “It really hit me hard.”

Smith was also nervous about his next tour but felt the energy right, so he planned the tour. 

The singer was there to promote his new album, Love Goes (released on 20 October). Originally, he had planned to name the album title, To Die, but after the global pandemic, the title didn’t feel right for him. He said,

The album is safe, and I’m not ashamed of it. All I wanted is to feel safe because at a moment there are unsafety (regarding his mental health issues) in my life.

So, being honest, pushing myself during making of the second album probably would have been detrimental to my health as I wasn’t in the right space.

Many of his followers saw Smith as their inspiration, and learning that he was not mentally okay made them worry, and fortunately, it wasn’t too late.
