Peaches “April” Stergo, 36, a Champions Gate, Florida resident, was arrested on April 12, 2023, for allegedly defrauding an 87-year-old Holocaust survivor.

According to Law And Crime, the lady made out of $2.8 million in a “romance scam.”

Stergo was presented in the Middle District of Florida and will be transferred to a federal court in New York City, where she will face a wire fraud count that could put her in prison for 20 years.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said the fraud “maliciously” drained the elderly survivor’s life savings to become a millionaire through fraud.

Peaches’ indictment, unsealed on Wednesday, says she met the victim on a dating website six or seven years ago.

According to the indictment, the lady allegedly contacted the victim around early 2017.

Peaches Stergo, the resident of Championsgate, has been sentenced to prison for defrauding an 87-year-old man out of his life savings in a romance scam that lasted several years.

Stereo admitted to bilking the victim out of over $2.8 million and his apartment, which she used to fund her life of luxury.

The lady pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud, which carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison from July 7.

Peaches Stergo Defrauding 87-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor

As per New York Post, the lady allegedly contacted the victim around early 2017, claiming that she had settled a lawsuit involving injuries.

Peaches claimed she suffered a car accident but that her lawyer would not release the settlement funds unless he received a certain amount.

Stergo asked the victim if she could borrow from him to pay the lawyer & this shows the “romance fraud” that began that lasted for years.

In May 2017, bank records show the victim wrote his first check to Stergo for $25,000.

After that payment, prosecutors say, the lady falsely told her elderly target that the settlement money had been put into an account at TD Bank.

Authorities say there was never any such settlement & dozens of requests like it allegedly followed.

The victim wrote almost monthly checks to Stergo, often in increments of $50,000 & many more.

After each check was deposited, Stergo told the victim that her bank needed more money. Otherwise, the accounts would be frozen, and the victim would never be paid back.

The victim continued writing checks because he feared he would never see his money again.

The victim wrote 62 checks — totaling over $2.8 million — that were deposited into one of two accounts controlled by Stergo.

The convict also took expensive trips, stayed at places like the Ritz Carlton, and spent tens of thousands of dollars on expensive items.
