Omar Alvarez Carrer Explored

Alvarez was destined for the world of video games practically from birth: “My mother informed me that the first word I ever uttered was Nintendo,” he tells us in a Skype conversation, serious yet with a giggle.

Due to life circumstances, he left Asturias at 18 for Madrid. “I intended to study Architecture -for interior design and ephemeral spaces- or Fine Arts; those were my two foci,” he says. What transpired was unusual.

Returning to Madrid, lvarez sought work on what was coming out and asked Pedro John Tones Berruezo, who was in charge of Extreme, the name of the new design for Superjuegos [a popular magazine from the late 1990s and early 2000s edited by Zeta], if he was searching for editors.

His suggestion came just as an editor, Jess Rocamora, departed “Extreme” to work in the cultural department of the daily “Pblico,” so John Toneshe responded that he knew who he was talking about.
