Dominic Welch is a talented college basketball player who has made a name for himself on the court at Saint Bonaventure University. 

Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Welch grew up with a passion for basketball and a desire to compete at the highest level. 

He attended Cheektowaga Central High School, where he honed his skills on the court and developed a reputation as a talented shooting guard.

After graduating high school, Welch committed to play for the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies, a Division I basketball program in the Atlantic 10 Conference. 

Welch made an impact as a freshman, appearing in all 33 games for the Bonnies and averaging 8.1 points per game. 

Welch’s scoring ability and strong defensive play helped the Bonnies win the Atlantic 10 regular-season championship and earn a spot in the NCAA tournament.

Welch continued to improve in his sophomore year, averaging 11.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, shooting 41% from three-point range. 

He emerged as one of the team’s top-scoring options and a Leader on the court, helping the Bonnies to another successful season.

In the 2020-2021 season, Welch took his game to another level, averaging 11.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting 39% from three-point range. 

Welch was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team for his strong defensive play, and he helped lead the Bonnies to their first conference championship since 2012.

Welch’s performance in the championship game was awe-inspiring, as he scored a game-high 20 points and made several clutches plays down the stretch to secure the victory.

As Welch enters his senior year of eligibility with the Bonnies, he is poised to continue his success on the court and help his team compete at the highest level.

Dominick Welch’s basketball career may have taken him outside Buffalo, but his roots remain deeply connected to the city. Speaking of his age, he seems to be in his early twenties.

His parents, Brandon and Angelo Welch grew up in the Fruit Belt district in Buffalo, less than a mile from the Tops supermarket on Jefferson Avenue. 

Welch first became a sports star in the city as the quarterback of little league football teams on the West Side, North Buffalo, and in Cheektowaga, where he spent most of his childhood with his older brother, Darrell Delaney Jr.

Welch grew up in a close-knit extended family, living upstairs from his grandmother Lillian Tyson.

They lived near a basketball court where Angelo would kick Darrell and his friends off the court so Welch could practice shooting. Despite sibling tussles that left holes in the walls, Welch’s drive and passion for sports continued to grow.

Dominick honed his skills playing in the North Cheektowaga Amateur Athletic Association and joined the AAU circuit with Albany City Rocks’ Jimmy Hart.

Welch’s rise in athletics resulted from his hard work, dedication, and support from his family and community. His parents and brother were his biggest supporters, and his success brought pride to the community of Buffalo and Cheektowaga.

Welch broke several records, including a Cheektowaga program record of 668 points in a season and a Western New York record of 2,355 career points, surpassing Richie Campbell’s previous record.

Welch’s fans continued to support him when he played prep at Geneva, Ohio’s Spire Institute and later at St. Bonaventure University.

Welch led the Bonnies to an A-10 title and NCAA Tournament berth in 2021 and made clutch baskets in the National Invitation Tournament, scoring 25 points on a Bonnies’ postseason in the semifinals.

He was named a team captain at St. Bonaventure University and was respected by his coaches, teammates, and fans.

Welch’s excellence in basketball brought the community of Cheektowaga together. People from all walks of life celebrated his achievements and felt pride in his success.
