Farmington was “shaken to the core” by the attack, which “robbed families of their loved ones,” Mayor Nate Duckett told reporters.
It is the most recent American city to be hit by the nationwide pandemic of gun violence, which has led to 225 mass shootings in the first 20 weeks of the year.
Investigators said they couldn’t immediately find a link between Wilson and his victims, who were in automobiles when they were killed.
“It looks to be random,” Dowdy added, “with no specific targets or objectives we can discern now.”
Farmington Police Sgt. Rachel Discenza and New Mexico State Police Officer Andreas Stamatiadas were both injured but have already been discharged from the hospital, according to Mayor Nate Duckett.
Discenza has worked for the Farmington Police Department for ten years. According to authorities, Stamatiadas, a four-year veteran, was injured while driving to the site.
Sheriff Shane Ferrari of San Juan County said his department had been entrusted with reviewing the response of the Police officer who fired 16 bullets.
