Lauren Smith-Fields Suspect – Was The Killer Found? Case Update
Lauren Smith-Fields suspect is not found yet. According to CNN, she was allegedly discovered unconscious in bed on December 12, 2021.
The night before Smith-Fields was reported “not breathing,” she went out with Matthew LaFountain, 37, whom Lauren had met on the well-known dating app “Bumble.”
According to a report from the Bridgeport Police Department, the two were drinking tequila at her residence when she became ill. LaFountain told Police that Smith-Fields allegedly spent some time in the restroom.
On the other hand, he found that unusual, but he didn’t believe it was appropriate for him to comment because he didn’t know her well.
LaFountain had only known Smith-Fields for three days, according to ABC News. The night before she passed, he claimed to have paid for her apartment on his first visit and informed authorities that she had become ill.
Smith-family Field’s claimed that Police failed to inform them of her passing; they were only made aware of it more than a day later when her landlord left a letter on the door of her flat.
According to the family, the man who called authorities was not a suspect in her death, who claimed Police told them this but did not explain why.
They claimed that the detective eventually instructed them to cease calling. Darnell Crosland, the family’s lawyer, has informed the city that he intends to file a lawsuit accusing the Police of conducting an inadequate investigation.
Crosland said in his notice of intent to sue that Police did not find evidence, including a blood-stained bed sheet, until two weeks later at the family’s request. He claimed that the state forensics lab still hadn’t received the evidence.
Smith-Fields’ death was declared an accident on January 24 due to “acute intoxication due to the combined effects of fentanyl, promethazine, hydroxyzine, and alcohol,” according to the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The Bridgeport Police Department announced it was starting a criminal inquiry into her death a day after determining the “cause” of death.

The mother of Lauren Smith-Fields, Mrs. Fields, claimed that the Bridgeport Police Department failed to notify her family of Lauren’s passing.
According to their lawyer, the family had to beg the investigator to take the evidence they had uncovered in residence.
