Career: Junior Championships

In 2004, Nishikori won the title at the Riad 21 Tournament in Rabat, Morocco, and even was the quarter-finalist at the 2006 Junior French Open. By July 2006, Nishikori had already achieved a combined ranking of No.7 in the world.

In 2007, Kei reached the final of the USTA Pro Circuits event but lost to Donald Young in Little Rock, Arkansas. Nishikori even served as a hitting partner for Roger Federer at Wimbledon. Following the incident, Nishikori qualified for the Indianapolis Tennis Championships in July, only be defeated in the quarterfinal by Dmitry Tursunov in two sets.

The following year, Japan’s No. 1 player sustained a right elbow injury and underwent surgery, spending nearly 11 months on recovery. But the Japanese player made a comeback in 2010 and won Sarasota Open by defeating Brian Dabu in three sets.

In 2011, Kei had the best results in his career, finishing at No. 25. The next year, on October 7, Nishikori won the Rakuten Japan Open in its 41-year history, lifting his ranking from World No. 17 to No. 15.
