Sattler is widely recognized as a legendary figure in the sport, having gained prominence for leading the Rabbitohs to a triumph in 1970 grand final against Manly, despite sustaining a broken jaw early in the game.
He captained South Sydney to four premierships between 1967 and 1971 while representing Australia in four Tests and playing for New South Wales and Queensland interstate matches.
On the other hand, in 2008, Sattler was acknowledged as one of the top 100 Australian players of all time and was also inducted into the NRL Hall of Fame that same year.

Bobby McCarthy, a former teammate of the deceased player, spoke to The Daily Telegraph in a recent interview, expressing his sorrow and stating, “It’s a sorrowful day.”
McCarthy said that while all the front-row players in those days were tough, “Satts” was more challenging than all combined.
Despite a broken jaw, Sattler continued playing in the championship match, which determined the winner.
He also played through the pain of a dislocated elbow in one of the games to complete the competition, displaying his unwavering determination on the rugby league field.
Throughout his career, Sattler played 197 games for Souths and four tests for Australia between 1963 and 1972, representing the South Sydney team exclusively.
His professional career spanned from 1963 to 1997.
