Similarly, Kimberly is an artist and fashion designer who changed her last name from Petty to Violette. She took the name from her favorite color, ultraviolet. Also, Adria, the youngest daughter, is an art director and editor. Likewise, she has worked with many renowned artists like Beyonce, Coldplay, Macy Gray, and Regina Spektor.

The couple seemed so in love and inseparable that their divorce came as a shock to many. Tom had dedicated one of the singles, Edge of Seventeen for Benyo.

After the divorce, Tom found love, while Jane suffered from depression and loneliness. In 2015, the late musician described his wife as mentally ill in his biography Petty: The Biography. Furthermore, Adria spoke about the issue stating that her mother was just deeply in love with her husband but became verbally abusive because of her insecurities.

At the same time, Tom found himself engrossed in drugs and alcohol. In later days, he even fell victim to heroin. His addiction was so severe that Petty went into therapy even before their divorce.

In hindsight, Petty credits his second wife Dana, for helping him overcome his addiction. Not only that, but Dana helped Petty to rebuild his relationship with his children. The new couple was living a peaceful life until his death on October 2, 2017.

According to medical reports, Tom died from mixed drug toxicity, a lethal combination of fentanyl, oxycodone, and many other drugs. On October 16, 2017, his funeral was at the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades.
