Joe Murgo

Joe is a famous American meteorologist, working in WTAJ TV in Altoona, Pennsylvania as a chief meteorologist. Is Joe Murgo retiring? Let’s know where he is going after WTAJ.

In the mid-1990s, Joe’s family was faced with leaving central Pennsylvania. They didn’t think they would have the opportunity to return there.

Joe has lived in different places across the nation where he learned about different climates. 

In 1990 Murgo graduated with BS Degree in Meteorology from Penn State. 

Murgo has been teaching Introductory Meteorology courses at Penn State Altoona. 

Before getting a job, Joe did some internships to gain experience before graduating with a degree. WRC-TV in Washington D.C. is one of the places he did an internship.

After graduating, he became a Senior Meteorologist with AccuWeather at State College.

While working at State College, he forecasted and broadcasted for radio stations.

Apart from forecasting and broadcasting, he also made forecasts on national television, which were critical.

In October 1995, Joe left Pennsylvania to pursue his goal and joined the forecasting team at WTOV-TV in Steubenville, OH.

In 2005, Joe became the first person in Pennsylvania and in United States of America to be appointed as Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society(AMS).

In 2008, Joe earned the Television Seal of Approval by the National Weather Association after he completed a sweep of all possible certifications for meteorologists.

Joe is a person who loves to be involved in different community events. In winter, you can catch him skiing and instruct others on the joy of the sport, as he is also a certified ski instructor.

In summer seasons, you can catch him on local rivers kayaking.

Where Is He Going After Leaving WTAJ?

Joe Murgo is a television meteorologist, and rumors are circulating in the media about his retirement.

Despite the rumors, he hasn’t made any statements related to rumors of him retiring.

In 2009, the American Meteorology Society’s Board of Broadcast Meteorology appointed Joe.

In 2012, he was elevated to the chairman of the American Meteorology Society Board of Broadcast. 

Joe is also part of the Professional Development Committee of the National Weather Association.

He is serving a second round on the AMS board of broadcast meteorology.

Joe worked at WUSA-TV, the CBS affiliate in The Nation’s Capital, before returning to WTAJ.

American Meteorologist Joe Murgo Is A Family Guy

Joe Murgo was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.

Joe has a successful career as a meteorologist, and his parents encouraged and inspired him to pursue his goal.

First-person in Pennsylvania to be appointed as Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society(AMS), Joe is married to Mara.

The couple are parents to two daughters, Kristen and Rebecca.

Joe on his Facebook posted a photo captioned “My wife and I celebrate 29 years of marriage today. I want to thank her for the many sacrifices and challenges that have come with my career path.” on June 16, 2020.

There is no information abouts family, as he loves to keep his personal life private.
