The murder trial of the disgraced South Carolina attorney, Alex Murdaugh, is currently underway at the Colleton County Courthouse in Walterboro and is in its the fourth week.
The case dates back to June 2021 when the wife and son of Murdaugh were discovered shot to death at the family’s Moselle property in Islandton.
Despite the overwhelming evidence against him, the accused, Alex Murdaugh, has entered a plea of not guilty to two counts of murder, as well as two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection to the tragic and senseless deaths of his beloved wife and son.
Apart from the murder charges, he also faces 99 charges stemming from alleged financial crimes.
On Thursday, during the double murder trial, testimony revealed that Murdaugh and a friend had only spent a few minutes planning a failed attempt to shoot the attorney on a secluded South Carolina road.
This was supposedly done so that his son could collect a multi-million dollar life insurance policy several months after his wife’s and another son’s tragic deaths due to gun violence.
During the trial, a state agent testified that the shot fired by a former client turned drug dealer aimed at Murdaugh only grazed his head.

He planned to make his death look like a robbery or revenge killing so that his surviving son could collect his $10 million life insurance policy, which was ruined due to the failed attempt on his life.

Alex Murdaugh was arrested in July 2022 on two counts of murder and two counts of weapon possession during the commission of a violent crime.
The charges connected to the deaths of his wife, Maggie and son Paul, following an indictment by the Colleton County Grand Jury.
The indictment alleges that Alex Murdaugh utilized a rifle to shoot his wife and a shotgun to shoot his son, leading to the tragic deaths.
The trial commenced on January 25th, 2023, at the Colleton County Courthouse in Walterboro, South Carolina.
