According to authorities in Alabama, a man who barricaded himself inside an apartment and shot two Police officers before being caught has murdered one and seriously wounded the other.

Michael Johnson, the deputy Police chief in Huntsville, claims that a woman called 911 on Tuesday in the late afternoon to report being wounded.

Police found the shooting victim, who had non-life-threatening wounds when they arrived. The perpetrator shot at the two officers, hitting them both, then locked himself inside an apartment.

According to a press release from municipal officials, the officers were transported to a hospital. One passed away from his injuries, and the other underwent emergency surgery and was in critical condition.

Huntsville Shooting: Garrett Crumby – Police Officer Shot To Death

Sources across the state have verified that a former officer of the Tuscaloosa Police Department was shot and killed while on patrol in Huntsville on Tuesday night.

Tuesday night, when Huntsville Police officers Garrett Crumby and Albert Morin were responding to an emergency domestic violence report, they were allegedly ambushed and shot by a man with a gun who had already shot and wounded a woman there.

Crumby served at the Tuscaloosa Police Department from November 2013 to August 2020, according to a department spokeswoman.

Crumby is the third TPD-affiliated officer to die from a gunshot in the past few years; in September 2019, Dornell Cousette was shot and killed in Tuscaloosa, and Kennis Croom, a native of Tuscaloosa, died while responding to a domestic violence call in Mississippi.

A suspect, Juan Robert Laws, 24, has been detained by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and accused of Crumby’s death’s capital murder.

Who is Garrett Crumby?

On Wednesday, the slain officer was named Garrett Crumby, 36.

After being shot while reacting to a shooting report on Tuesday, one Police officer in Huntsville, Alabama, passed away. According to authorities, another is still in the hospital in serious condition.

According to the city, a little over an hour later, the culprit was captured and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.

Officer Garrett Crumby, who had worked for the Huntsville Police agency for three years and the Tuscaloosa Police Department for eight years prior, was identified by Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall after the agency withheld his identity.

When the two cops came on the scene, an armed suspect ambushed them, according to Marshall.

Juan Robert Laws, 24, was apprehended by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and booked into the Madison County Jail on a charge of fatal murder of a law enforcement officer, according to jail records. He was held without having to make a bond.

Police assembled outside the hospital when the officer arrived, and they later encircled the hearse that was called to transport the officer’s body for an examination.
