A Scottish legislator named Humza Haroon Yousaf has served as the Scottish National Party’s (SNP) Leader and the nation’s First Minister-designate since March 2023.

Yousaf and his companion El-Nakla’s newborn kid is named Amal. A second daughter from a previous marriage belongs to El-Nakla.

Nadia El-Nakla is an Egyptian woman who is married to Humza Yousaf. She was chosen in May 2022 to serve as an SNP councilor and represent Dundee’s West End.

El-Nakla previously worked as Shona Robison’s assistant when she was Scotland’s health minister.

Yousaf and El-Nakla, who wed in 2019, reside in the Broughty Ferry region, four miles east of Dundee.

Yousaf’s current marriage is not his first, though. His first wife was Gail Lythgoe, a longtime SNP team member who presided over him from 2010 to 2016.

Yousaf immediately brought up his family after it became apparent that he had won the SNP leadership competition. He thanked his wife, their daughters, and the Campaign staff in his speech, calling each “extraordinary people.”

On April 7, 1985, Humza Haroon Yousaf was born in Glasgow. He was born to first-generation immigrants in Mian Channu, Punjab, Pakistan; his Father, Mian Muzaffar Yousaf, left the region in the 1960s and later worked as a bookkeeper.

In the 1960s, his biological grandpa worked at Clydebank’s Singer sewing machine plant. Shaaista Bhutta, the mother of Yousaf, was born in Nairobi, Kenya, and was reared in a Punjabi Arain household.

Because they were believed to be occupying places that “belonged” to Africans, her family was subjected to numerous violent racist assaults. Later, they relocated to Scotland.

Humza Yousaf’s political career started in 2007 when he joined the Scottish National Party (SNP).

In 2012, he entered Party politics for the first time and was selected to serve as a councilor in Glasgow. 2011 saw the selection of Yousaf to represent the Glasgow region in the Scottish Parliament. He was re-elected in 2016 and 2021.

Yousaf was given his first government post as Minister of External Affairs and International Development in November 2014.
