The talented designer Guo Pei was born to her Chinese parents in the capital city Beijing, China. Both of her parents were a member of China’s Communist Party. Her father was a senior official, and her mother was a kindergarten teacher.

The year 2015 was the year that made Guo Pei known in the Western world. For the 2015 Met Gala theme, which was “China: Through the Looking Glass,” red and flaming silhouettes dominated the event until Rihanna.
Well, this pop diva and icon of many appeared in an imperial yellow, fur-trimmed cape that was heavily embroidered with plethoras of silver florals. And the designer was none other than our very own Guo Pei.
According to Pei, it took her 50,000 hours over two years to make and weighed around 25 kg(55 lbs). When asked about the design and its inspiration by Vanity Fair, Pei replied,
“The focus and the attention paid to this dress will make it remembered by the world… It is my responsibility to let the world know China’s tradition and past and to give the splendour of China a new expression. T hope people do know China in this way.”
And just as she wished the dress was the one that stole the attention, as it spawned viral in the social media. It even gave birth to hilarious memes. However, the diva who rocked these outfits was more than satisfied with the dress.
Rihanna told Vanity Fair,
“I’m so in love with this dress, but the train is insane!… I can’t really walk in it without any help- but it’s so worth it. I love this dress so much!”
