Though we are devastated by this loss, each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia will look to her example and endeavor to live up to that standard. Jess was a proud Virginian from high school through college and throughout her career. She loved EDVA and EDVA loved her back. Aber started her legal career as a law clerk for then Magistrate Judge M. Hannah Lauck of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia from 2006 to 2007.
From 2007 to 2008, she was an associate at McGuireWoods and an assistant United States attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.
In March 2021, Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner recommended Aber and another candidate to the White House.
On August 10, 2021, President Joe Biden nominated Aber as the United States attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
She received her commission on October 7, 2021, and was sworn in on October 12, 2021, by Chief Judge Mark Steven Davis and Judge M. Hannah Lauck. Aber resigned on January 20, 2025.
