Elizabeth Holmes

Elizabeth Holmes Mugshot has been trending on social media as she was denied the request to stay out of prison while she appealed a fraud conviction.

Ms. Holmes is a convicted fraudster and former biotechnology entrepreneur from the United States. She is the former CEO and creator of Theranos, a now-defunct health technology business.

Holmes admired Apple founder Steve Jobs and purposefully imitated his look, usually wearing a black turtleneck sweater, as Jobs did.

Holmes states that her mother clothed her in black turtlenecks when she was young and began wearing them around the age of eight, but she also claims that she began wearing black turtlenecks when she founded the firm in 2003.

In 2007, a team member claimed she recommended Holmes mimic Jobs’ renowned Issey Miyake turtleneck appearance. She spoke in a robust baritone voice at most of her public appearances.

Elizabeth Holmes Mugshot: Judge Denies Appeal To Stay Out Of Prison

A U.S. District Court judge has ordered that Elizabeth Holmes, the discredited founder and CEO of the blood-testing firm Theranos, cannot be released on bond while appealing her fraud conviction.

According to court records released Monday, Judge Edward Davila determined that the element of Holmes’s conviction that she is appealing is unlikely to be reversed.

In January 2022, a jury convicted Holmes guilty of four charges of fraud related to her leadership at Theranos. She was sentenced to more than 11 years in jail in November.

Davila highlighted in his most recent order that Holmes is appealing her conviction based on rules concerning what evidence was provided during her trial, including whether Theranos goods “performed as promised.”

Davila stated that Holmes’ conviction was based not just on that problem but also on the Company’s finances, alleged business connections, and her fraudulent representations to investors.

“Whether or whether the jury heard more or less evidence tending to indicate the accuracy and dependability of Theranos technology does not reduce the testimony of additional misrepresentations Ms. Holmes made to investors that the jury heard,” Davila said.

Davila agreed that Holmes was not a flight risk, even though her fiancĂ©, Billy Evans, booked a one-way ticket to Mexico for them that was set to travel a few weeks after the jury’s conviction.

But, Davila stated that based on discussions, he accepted Holmes’ claim that the airplane ticket, “although ill-advised,” was not an attempt to escape the country.

Elizabeth Holmes Fraud Case Update

Holmes’ sentence is set to begin roughly 20 years after she dropped out of Stanford University at the age of 19 to found Theranos in Palo Alto, California.

In the same city, William Hewlett and David Packard founded a Company bearing their surnames in a small garage and planted the seeds of what became Silicon Valley.

Holmes might still submit an appeal of Davila’s recent judgment, a strategy her Theranos co-conspirator Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani successfully used to postpone his scheduled March 16 start date for a roughly 13-year jail term.

But, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied that petition last week, and Balwani is now due to report to a Southern California jail on April 20.

Davila has suggested that Holmes serve her time at a jail in Bryan, Texas. It has yet to be officially stated whether or not that will be the institution where she will report.

Without finding a means to remain free, Holmes will be separated from her two children before and after her conviction.

The birth of her son, her first child, occurred just before her trial began in September 2021. The youngest kid, the gender of which has not been revealed in court filings, was born sometime after her November sentencing.

She had both children with her current partner, William “Billy” Evans, whom she met after splitting up with Balwani after Theranos’ demise.
