It was his biggest dream to become a doctor. Being the eldest, he felt a certain pressure to fulfill her wish. He completed his degree in Pharmacy at the University of Santo Tomas before entering St. Luke’s.
Dr. Goco cites two reasons for choosing to study at St. Luke’s: his Father was a heart patient of a doctor at St. Luke’s, and the hospital had a good reputation during that time.
Dr. Goco’s most significant struggles during his time in medical school were the constantly evolving pedagogy, the expectations of the faculty, and needing more seniors to guide them.
He was active in the Sagip Bayan Student Group and joined its medical missions during his time in St. Luke’s. Dr. Goco eventually passed the Philippine Medical Board Exam in 2000.
He praises St. Luke’s for providing them with the best facilities and professors from different fields, the best teaching materials, and exposing them to the hospital itself, which was essential in preparing him to become a surgeon.
