Connor Furtain suicide

Connor Furtain has been identified as the second person to die by suicide at the school in less than a month.

Furtain, 17, was born in 2007 in California, United States. This week, the Rancho Cucamonga, California, community has been struck with another unimaginable tragedy.

  • Connor Furtain took his own life after jumping from the overpass on Interstate 210. 
  • Two weeks earlier, a dancer and Cheerleader, Emily Gold, also took her own life jumping from the same overpass. 
  • The Los Osos School informed parents that Connor had passed away after struggling with depression.

Less than two weeks prior, Emily Gold, an AGT contestant, also took her own life on the same overpass on Interstate 210, referred to as the Foothill Freeway, where Connor Furtain passed away. 

The skilled dancer and cheerleader Gold from California passed away on September 13, 2024, as per the San Bernardino Coroner’s office. 

 

California Highway Patrol public information officer Rodrigo Jimenez said when the officers arrived, they located a female who was struck by at least one other vehicle in the carpool lane on eastbound. 

Connor Furtain Took His Own Life Following A Mental Health Struggle

The California Highway Patrol confirmed that Connor Furtain, a Los Osos High School senior, passed away on September 26, 2024, by suicide after jumping from an overpass on Interstate 210. 

Residents are trying to figure out how to deal with the two disasters’ proximity and similarities while ensuring that no other young lives are lost similarly. 

The school and the surrounding community are in a state of intense sadness following the simultaneous losses of Emily and Connor Furtain. 

Both were well-liked classmates well-known for their selflessness and presence at the school. 

 

The recent incidents emphasize the urgent need for better mental health support for adolescents, who often feel isolated and confused about how to seek help. 

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), s*icide is the second leading cause of d*ath for people between the ages of 10 and 34 in the United States. 

Moreover, the school administration has provided grief counselors to students and staff to help them process these tragedies. 

In a statement, the Los Osos School informed parents that their student had sadly ended his life following a battle with depression. 

Rancho Tsunami, Water Polo Club, also poured condolence through their official Facebook page. They wrote,

We would like to extend our dearest condolences to the families, LOHS student and administration, and friends. Connor’s close ones and friends have offered condolences and encouraged his family to stay strong during this challenging period.
