A Santa Clarita man and a 16-year-old Valencia kid were identified as the victims discovered shot to death in a Newhall apartment complex pool on Sunday.
According to the coroner’s office, Brian Chevez was 25 years old, and Cameron Stokes was the minor victim.

Police were called to the Village Apartments Residences at 23700 Valle del Oro, just north of Newhall Avenue, at 10:50 am. Saturday, according to murderer Lt. Hugo Reynaga of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

In connection with the shooting murders of Brian Chevez and Cameron Stokes, an 18-year-old Sylmar resident has been detained. Chevez, 25, and Stokes, 16, were identified as the victims by Aimee Earl, an investigator for the Los Angeles County Coroner-Medical Examiner’s office.
According to Reynaga, both victims were shot in the upper body and pronounced dead on the spot.
According to Reynaga, a male and a 16-year-old kid were shot numerous times in the upper chest while at a pool in the complex’s center, all as children sat in a nearby hot tub. Investigators suspect a gang carried out the shooting.

He added that witnesses saw a guy climb over the pool fence and Fire bullets before fleeing into the apartment complex’s parking lot.
Within minutes, deputies intercepted a white car matching the description given by witnesses and apprehended two young males inside as “persons of interest,” according to Reynaga. Their true identities were never uncovered.
According to him, preliminary inquiry indicated that the incident was perhaps gang-related.

At around 10:50 in the morning, two persons were shot and murdered at The Village Apartments in Newhall am on Saturday, according to Lt. Hugo Reynaga, a homicide investigator with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Aimee Earl, an investigator for the Los Angeles County Coroner-Medical Examiner’s office, the two deaths were ultimately identified as Brian Chevez, 25, and Cameron Stokes, 16.
“A preliminary inquiry indicates that it may be gang-related. These two people were sitting by the pool. “Several other kids were relaxing in the Jacuzzi across from the pool when the gunshot occurred,” Reynaga added.
“Witnesses say they observed a man adult peering [and] reaching over the pool barrier… He reached over the fence and began emptying his weapon.”
A white Ford Mustang convertible matching a description supplied by witnesses was stopped in the 26900 block of Sierra Highway in the parking lot of Stater Bros. During the stop, two persons were detained at gunpoint.
According to Reynaga, two persons were arrested: an adult and a minor. According to Reynaga, the adult suspect had not yet been legally charged as of Monday, and he could not disclose any further information on the other suspect since he is a kid.
