2020 has been tough for all of us since the start. But it has proven to be especially harsh on BLACKPINK‘s Lisa, who was revealed to be scammed by her former manager for 1 billion won.
YG Entertainment, the agency that she is under, confirmed the news today, shocking all of the Korean netizens and, of course, her fans. Lisa Manoban is active as a rapper and main dancer of the world-famous group, Blackpink, who recently released the song Sour Candy with pop-icon Lady Gaga.

Going in more depth, on June 2, South Korean news site Market News revealed her former manager A had promised the young singer to invest her money in real estate on her behalf.
However, the manager blew all of her hard-earned money in gambling; 1 billion won, which is equivalent to around $817 thousand on his personal uses.

What’s more troublesome is that manager A had been working with the group since their debut back in 2016. He was especially close with Lisa, the youngest member of the group, as fans have witnessed them many times together.
Upon hearing the news, many fans, as well as the staff of the company, could not hide their disappointment as the manager had well-reputation and even trusted by the other team.
Providing more insight into the news, Soompi, the South Korean culture website, weighed in and stated that Lisa was targeted as she was the only Blackpink member without family in South Korea.
“Because Lisa is a foreign member and has been in Korea by herself since she was young. She is very vulnerable to those things. It is very unfortunate that these things happen in the industry. This is a serious situation that can damage the management’s image.”
Following the report, it did not take YG Entertainment to confirm the news. They also released their own statement about the issue.
“After looking into the matter, we confirmed that Lisa was a victim of fraud by former manager A.
According to Lisa’s Wished to settle this amicably, as the former manager was someone Lisa had trusted, Manager A, has reimbursed a part of the sum and has left the company after agreeing on a reimbursement plan for the rest of the sum.
We bow our heads and apologize for causing concern to the fans who love our artist.
We are embarrassed by the misconduct of “A,” and we are feeling responsible for the management and supervision. Also, we are taking preventive measures so that this does not happen again.”
After the news broke out, many of her fans have shown their outrage over the manager and the company’s action towards Lisa. But most of them have shown support to Lisa, telling her to hang in there.
