After admitting to the stabbing deaths of his estranged wife, their son, and her daughter in 2004, Andre Thomas gouged out his eyes.
Andre Thomas, a death row inmate, filed a clemency petition on Wednesday, requesting that the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles commute the blind 39-year-sentence old’s to life in prison or grant a reprieve.
At the same time, it is decided whether Thomas is competent to be put to death this year.

Thomas has had mental illness all his life and received medication treatment while incarcerated.
What Is Wrong With Andre Thomas Eye?
Andre Thomas, a death row inmate, once had a bizarre outburst in which he removed his only eye and ate it.
Thomas was incarcerated in a Grayson County jail cell five days following the offense for which he had been found guilty and given the death penalty. He paid attention to the internal dialogue.
The voices drove him to commit the crime, which started when he was nine years old. He gouged out his right eye by Matthew 5:29, which says, “If thy right eye offends thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee.”
Thomas later removed his left eye and ate it while he was on death row. He was shielding his thoughts from the government in his head.
