Leif played football as a running back for the Steven’s Point team. In September 2023, he played his debut match and secured a 40-6 victory.

A Waupaca baseball player, Leif Berrens, took his last breath in March 2025. However, the exact cause of death has not been mentioned yet.
Waupaca Baseball team’s coach, Brady Terrill, took the official Facebook handle of Waupaca Baseball Organization and poured a small tribute to Leif Berrens. He wrote,
It is with a heavy heart that we share the tragic passing of our beloved teammate, Leif Berrens. He was a loyal friend, dedicated player, and an athletic beast. Leif’s positive attitude and friendly spirit created an uplifting and welcoming atmosphere in our dugout. He bore every quality you could have asked for in an athlete, and left a legendary impact on and off the field. I feel honored to have coached Leif these past few years. We will have a difficult season ahead of us as our baseball family grieves this loss. Our prayers are with the Berrens family. Leif will always be in our hearts, and our coaching staff and players will do everything we can to honor his legacy as we compete in our 12U season.
Sara Timm and her team have organized a Meal Train to help comfort Leif’s family during this difficult time.
A Social Security Administration recipient, Todd Nelson, also mourned Leif’s loss through his Facebook handle. He wrote,

Leif Berrens Is Survived By His Parents Kristy Schmoldt Berrens And Justin Berrens
Leif Berrens was born in Waupaca, Wisconsin, United States, to his father, Justin Berrens, and his mother, Kristy Schmoldt Berrens. They always supported Leif in achieving his athletic dreams.
His mother, Kristy, was born to her father, Clifford W. Hansen, and her mother, Marie Van Den Bogart. Sadly, her father, Clifford, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 92.
Kristy’s Facebook handle states that she studied for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and serves as the Waupaca County Public Health Nurse at Waupaca County Public Health Services.
On the other hand, Justin Berrens studied Geology at Lawrence University in 2004.
Currently, Kristy and Justin are mourning the tragic loss of their son, Leif Berrens.
Recently, Kristy took to her Facebook handle and thanked Waupaca coach Brady Terrill for the prayers. She wrote,
Thank you Brady-Greta Terrill for taking a chance on Leif a few years ago. He started his “career” much later than most and you and the team welcomed him with open arms. Baseball and football were his passions. I was so excited for this season. He said you guys were getting his arm ready for some pitching and he was up to the challenge. So many questions, I’m so lost and broken.
Leif shared a close bond with his grandmother, Jackie, and his grandfather, Jeff Berrens. As per Jackie’s Facebook handle, she went to Freedom High School and worked at Berrens Contracting Inc.
In addition, Leif is survived by his two sisters and two brothers, whose identities have been kept private.
