Moreover, Overton passed away recently on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, and the cause of his d*ath has not been revealed as the family seeks privacy at the moment.

President Michael Benson sent out the grim news in an all-campus email, describing Overton as “one of the best colleagues” he had ever worked with.
Travis dedicated much of his professional career to Coastal Carolina University and was one of the best colleagues I have ever had the privilege to work with. He was tirelessly committed to the success of the university and beloved by students, faculty, staff and community members.
Many will remember his unwavering support and mentorship, who was affectionately known as CCU’s “Swiss Army Knife” for his ability to handle challenges.

Coastal Carolina University has lost an incredible man following the passing of Travis Overton. He was my dean of students when I came to CCU in 2015 and was a guiding light during my near 10 years at the institution. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Travis E. Overton Was A Family man and a leader to be remembered
Travis E. Overton appears to be in his early 40s and was a family man who loved his family very much.
He often spoke of his mother, Barbara, who was described as his “beautiful angel.”
Mr Overton would speak from the heart of how her unwavering support and belief in him shaped his life.
On Mother’s Day, the CCU leader would think of their bond, rejoicing in her love which kept him firm when challenges came.
Unfortunately, his mother left this world while battling with cancer, making his heart shattered into pieces.
Furthermore, the late Overton saluted his stepfather, William Muray, for whom he had much admiration.
When his mother d*ed, he made it a point to see her last wish concerning taking care of Mr. Murray, who is a former retired officer at Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department.
On his dad’s birthday, he expressed his gratitude to him;
Today, I wish the man, William Murray, that made my mother’s life whole a very Happy Birthday. One of mother’s last wishes on this side of heaven was to make sure to take care of her husband. I truly hope that I have met her wishes. Happy birthday, Daddy! Thank you for showing me so much about life. Love you and hope it’s a great day!
