Texas music legend Tommy Alverson, known for shaping Texas country music, has sadly passed away.

Tommy Alverson, 74, was born in 1950 in Mineral Wells, Texas, United States. He attended and played varsity football at Itasca High School with Austin’s Sam Baker (then known as Dick Baker).

His Texas Music Family Gathering was a steadily growing three-day festival. It started as a tiny get-together in 1998 at Melody Mountain Ranch in Stephenville, Texas, and the Met Magazine in Dallas voted it Best Outdoor Event for 199. 

In 2000, it moved from Stephenville to Smooth Water Ranch in Hico, Texas. Then, it moved to Glen Rose at the Tres Rios River Ranch, where the number of fans reached approximately 2500 in 2002

The number rose to 4,000 in 2003. Randy Foster, Johnny Bush, Rusty Wier, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Cooder Graw, and Deryl Dodd were some of the names to have graced the stage.

Texas Music Family Gathering ceased to exist after 20 years. Alverson has also performed at County Rendez-Vous, one of Europe’s biggest country music festivals, in France. 

Tommy Alverson Obituary: Legendary Musician Passed Away Of Cancer

The legendary Texas musician Tommy Alverson left the world at the age of 74 following a battle with cancer. 

His wife, AmyCarol Alverson, took her official Facebook handle to announce the news of Tommy’s tragic passing. She wrote

I’m going to need a little while, but I’ll be posting soon… until then just know that ; just like the lucky ol sun, he’s got nothing to do but roll around Heaven all day….

 

Following the news, many relatives and close ones have poured their heartfelt condolences through social media.

One of his friends, Ben McPherson, poured a small tribute to Tommy through his Facebook handle. He wrote, 

We sure will miss you, Tommy Alverson!! RIP my friend!

His other musician friend, Kevin Browning, also took to his Facebook handle and poured his heartfelt condolence to Tommy’s family. He wrote, 

I just seen my long time good friend the music Icon Tommy Alverson passed away this morning from battling Cancer. My heart and thoughts go out to Eric And Amy and all his family and all his fans and friends. One of the nicest guys and talented men you would ever meet I had the great honor to be on stage with him a few times Again my deepest condolences ! Eric Alverson, and his wife Amy
 

On October 9, 2024, a Facebook account, Gathering for Tommy Alverson, announced that Tommy had been diagnosed with stage four liver cancer. 

Moreover, on November 7, 2024, they announced that Tommy had started immunotherapy treatments and prayed for great results. 

In addition, they have organized a benefit to be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Billy Bob in Fort Worth. 

 

Galleywinter also announced that Tommy has been battling with cancer. They wrote, 

TA’s up against it right now and battling cancer with the same smile and positive spirit he’s taken into everything he’s ever done. He could use all of our thoughts, prayers, good vibes and love right now.

Alverson’s son Eric Alverson and his grandson Zack Peyton also attended the fundraising show organized at Billy Bob. 

However, Tommy Alverson will be remembered for contributing to the music field.
