The courageous mother’s actions forced the intruder to flee. Subsequently, law enforcement officials apprehended Steven Bayse, aged 62, after a difficult pursuit by car.
Bayse now faces multiple serious charges, including kidnapping, evading arrest using a vehicle, and committing aggravated assault against a public servant.
Carlos struggled with the assailant during the incident until his wife arrived on the scene, wielding a knife.
According to the sheriff’s department, Steven Bayse repeatedly halted his vehicle and feigned surrender before attempting to flee again.
Despite law enforcement’s attempt to perform a “high-risk stop,” Bayse failed to comply, resulting in collisions with three police vehicles and narrowly missing hitting a deputy with his vehicle.
Eventually, he stopped in a grocery store parking lot, where authorities took him into custody. According to the sheriff’s office, Steven Bayse was detained at Tarrant County Jail, facing three felony charges, while his bond was established at $125,000.

On April 19, he was convicted of one misdemeanor count and received a 10-day sentence for stealing mail.
