Carlos struggled with the assailant during the incident until his wife arrived on the scene, wielding a knife.

According to the sheriff’s department, Steven Bayse repeatedly halted his vehicle and feigned surrender before attempting to flee again.

Despite law enforcement’s attempt to perform a “high-risk stop,” Bayse failed to comply, resulting in collisions with three police vehicles and narrowly missing hitting a deputy with his vehicle.

Eventually, he stopped in a grocery store parking lot, where authorities took him into custody. As of Tuesday, June 13, 2023, Bayse remains incarcerated at Tarrant County jail, facing several charges such as kidnapping, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle & aggravated assault against a public servant, as stated by the sheriff’s department.

According to the sheriff’s office, Steven Bayse was detained at Tarrant County Jail, facing three felony charges, while his bond was established at $125,000.

Despite her apprehension, her husband dismissed her worries, stating that she was overreacting and that it was insignificant.

Shortly after Paige had finished bringing in groceries, she glanced out the window only to witness a stranger, later identified as Bayse, seizing her two-year-old daughter.

Tarrant County court records reveal Bayse has a prior criminal history related to mail theft charges in Crowley during a February incident.

On April 19, he was convicted of one misdemeanor count and received a 10-day sentence for stealing mail.
