On Monday morning, March 27, 2023, a former student opened Fire at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, killing six people. Among the victims was William Kinney, a nine-year-old boy.
William was in the third grade at the School and was known to be a happy and friendly child. His classmates and teachers loved him, and his parents were devastated by their loss.
Nashville Shooting Victim: Who Are William Kinney Parents?
William’s parents, Mark and Sarah Kinney, have not spoken publicly about their son’s death. However, friends and family have described them as kind, loving, and devoted parents.
They say William was the light of their lives, and they struggle to accept his sudden and senseless death. Mark and Sarah Kinney are natives of Nashville and have lived in the area their entire lives.

9 Year Old Dies In School Shooting
William Kinney was one of three children who died in the shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville. The other two children were Evelyn Dieckhaus and Hallie Scruggs, also nine years old.
All three children were in the third grade at the School. Evelyn was described as a sweet and kind child who loved animals and wanted to be a veterinarian when she grew up.
Hallie was the daughter of the senior pastor at Covenant Presbyterian Church and was known for her love of music. The shooting also claimed the lives of three staff members: Cynthia Peak, Katherine Koonce, and Michael Hill.
Cynthia was a substitute teacher at the School, and Katherine was the head of the School. Michael was a custodian who had worked at Covenant for over 13 years.

Police say that the shooter, a 28-year-old former student at the School, randomly targeted his victims. He was apprehended by Police shortly after the shooting and is currently in custody.
The shooting has sent shockwaves through the Nashville community and has reignited the debate over gun violence in America. Politicians and activists have called for stricter gun laws to prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future.
