They are both active on Instagram under the usernames @ekpoppe and @hannahbush_1 and often share their pictures.

While Maddie’s elder sister Hannah Poppe is an emergency room nurse at Genesis Medical Center, located in the Quad Cities, her younger sister, Emma Poppe, is currently an undergraduate student at Iowa State University.

Hannah’s coworkers at Genesis have become big fans of Maddie and have supported and voted for her throughout the competition.

She is working on her bachelor of science in nursing through Upper Iowa University while continuing her career at Genesis.

On December 5, 1997, Maddie Poppe was born as the second daughter of Tonya and Trent Poppe in Clarksville, Iowa.

Her passion for singing ignited during her childhood, and she took the stage in middle school, captivating audiences with her voice. 

After graduating from Clarksville High School in 2016, Maddie pursued her education at Iowa Central Community College and Hawkeye Community College. 

With a Father who is a talented guitarist and musician, Maddie had the incredible opportunity to perform alongside him and his band at the lively Pioneer Days festival. 

The Butler County Fairgrounds in Allison, Iowa, served as a launching pad for Maddie’s career, where she honed her skills as a stagehand and witnessed the magic of live music firsthand.

Maddie’s unwavering dedication to her music made her prioritize gigging even during lectures, refusing to settle for anything less than what she truly loved.

Maddie Poppe impressed the judges in New York with her rendition of “Rainbow Connection,” showcasing her storytelling voice.

Katy Perry recognized Maddie’s distinctive vocal quality, while Luke Bryan enthusiastically supported her.

Maddie’s original song resonated with Katy Perry, who saw similar writing styles. Despite not expecting to win, Maddie aimed for the Top 24 and acknowledged her struggles with stage fright.

Maddie’s Top 14 performance of “Homeward Bound” drew comparisons to Joni Mitchell and earned praise from Luke Bryan.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds declared May 20, 2018, “Maddie Poppe Day” in honor of her talent.

Maddie won the American Idol finale, with Caleb Lee Hutchinson as the runner-up, becoming the first female winner since season twelve and the first Caucasian female winner since season four.
