Kentucky Judge Kevin Mullins was shot and killed after an argument with the county sheriff. 

The incident happened at about 2 P.M. on September 19, 2024, at the Letcher County Courthouse in Whitesburg.

Shooter Shawn Mickey Stines, 43, has been taken into custody and charged with one count of first-degree murder. 

According to Trooper Matt Gayheart, the investigation is ongoing, and they are trying to figure out the motive of the incident. 

Law enforcement received a 911 call at about 2:55 P.M. When the officials arrived, Kevin had multiple gunshot wounds. 

About 50 employees were inside the courthouse when the incident happened. Luckily, no one else was hurt, and a school in the area was briefly locked down. 

Announcing his passing on social media, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshar said

“There is far too much violence in this world, and I pray there is a path to a better tomorrow.”

Twitter Users Said Kevin Mullins Physically Abused Sheriff’s Wife

One of the Twitter users, Smokahontas, tweeted that Sheriff Shawn Mickey Stines shot Kevin Mullins because he was accused of r*ping his wife.

Without any facts to back up the story it sounds like you’re just spreading rumors. No offense, but as a retired cop I hate to hear that this happened and would love some sanity in the story, but for now…you’re literally the only one saying this and there’s zero to back it up
But Smokahontas’s information which she got was from first responders. She added that the KY governor has hired and trained many recruits, which have become a more common source of misinformation.

Kevin Mullins Was Likely Unmarried And Lived With His Family
