In response, Wessels chose to transition to the realm of cricket, even though the regulations at Grey College initially prohibited him from playing at his tender age.
Through the support of Johan Volsteedt, the first team captain, Wessels was granted the opportunity to participate in net practices, which soon made cricket his primary summer activity.
