No, Lewis Capaldi, a Scottish singer, isn’t autistic but has announced that he has Tourette syndrome.
The 25-year-old singer, who rose to prominence with the number-one single Someone You Loved in 2018, stated on Instagram Live that the diagnosis “makes so much sense”: “I can tell that I’m doing it when I look back at my interviews from 2018,” he remarked.
The singer stated that he opted to go public with the diagnosis because he “didn’t want people to assume he was using cocaine or anything” and first mistook it for “some dreadful degenerative condition” until receiving a thorough diagnosis.

“Whether I’m enthusiastic, joyful, scared, or stressed, my shoulder twitches,” he explained. “It’s something I have to live with.”
Capaldi stated that he has been undergoing botulinum toxin injections in his shoulder to reduce his involuntary twitches and is always “finding new methods to deal with.”
Capaldi’s Tourette’s diagnosis comes after two sold-out gigs at London’s O2 Arena and before the release of Forget Me, his first song in three years, on Friday. Alim Kheraj, writing for the Guardian, lauded one of Capaldi’s London concerts for its “raw passion.”
“Tourette’s affects one out of every 100 school-aged children, although the public believes it only affects a small percentage of the population.”
“Lewis Capaldi’s decision to come out about his illness will hopefully encourage other public figures to do the same,” said Emma McNally, CEO of Tourettes Action.

Lewis’s mother, Carole Capaldi, works as a nurse, while his Father, Mark, is a fisherman.
They feature in their son’s Netflix documentary, which depicts their close connection as they support him at most of his performances and during his battle with Tourette’s, which he was diagnosed with in 2022 after acquiring a tic as his career took off.

The ‘Someone You Loved’ singer is the youngest of four siblings and was motivated to pursue music by his elder brother when they were children.
Lewis’ elder brother Warren got him into music since they both wanted to play guitar. Warren is also supposed to be a musician. He has an elder brother, Anthony, who is also an Actor.
