While occasionally making public appearances and sharing insights on current events, he generally maintains a lower profile than his office time.

Furthermore, in 2020, online rumors were circulating about Mabuza’s death.

But, Deputy President David Mabuza’s office confirmed his well-being in response to the circulating rumors of his death on social media.

In an official statement, spokesperson Matshepo Seedat reassured the public, stating, “The office of the deputy president has received numerous calls from concerned South Africans regarding the health status of Mabuza.

We assure South Africans that the deputy president is at home and well. Anything contrary to this is a malicious and unfortunate rumor.”

Notably, just two weeks before this statement, on July 22, it had been announced that Mabuza would be unable to attend two parliamentary question and answer sessions due to illness.

He did not disclose the specific purpose of the treatment, but the media speculated that it might be linked to the alleged poisoning he experienced in 2015.

When the opposition Democratic Alliance sought to inquire about the poisoning in the National Assembly, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, the Speaker, disallowed the question.

Responding to further inquiries in 2022, Mabuza clarified that the trip had “nothing sinister” about it, emphasizing its medical rather than political nature.

However, he publicly addressed these concerns in March 2023, stating that he was well and taking time off for personal reasons.
