Hunter Duong, a student at Highland Park Middle School, has sadly passed away after attempting to harm himself, leaving his family, friends, and school community in deep sorrow as they mourn his tragic loss. 

He was a dedicated Highland Park Middle School member in St. Paul, Minnesota, and deeply committed to learning new things.

Remembering Hunter Duong, A 12-Year-Old: A Bright Light Gone Too Soon

Hunter Duong was more than just a student; he was a remarkably talented writer, a deep thinker, and a kind-hearted friend.

 

At the student news site for Woodbridge High School, he wrote to stir discussion, entertain, and even educate the students.

 

Duong’s voice was distinct, whether he was advocating for phones in schools, opining on the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight, or simply penning comedy.

Furthermore, he approached everything with curiosity and a love for learning that was simply unforgettable to his peers and teachers. 

Beyond his writing, the eighth grader had a quick wit and a warm personality that made everyone feel comfortable and at ease.

 

His self-description was laced with humor, reminding all of his light-heartedness in life:

Hello Warriors! I’m a human being made from the same atoms that formed at the cores of suns. I’m made of 60% water and have 206 bones. Part of the genus homo sapien sapiens. Likes long walks on the beach. Doesn’t like mosquitoes. Skinny as a stick, so you could say I’m in a sticky situation. The sun will explode in 5 billion years, but it’s okay because journalism won’t be around by then. Please don’t ever be afraid to talk to me… “There is no key to success, just an unlocked door many refuse to open.”

A Community In Mourning: The Tragic Loss of Hunter Duong

Highland Park ISD has confirmed an eighth-grade student, Hunter Duong, has tragically passed away on 2 February 2025.  

There are reports that Hunter tragically left this world by su*cide and that bullying may be involved in the incident. 

 

However, there is no comment on the school’s website regarding their position on this, thus raising many questions. 

Moreover, the police might still be investigating the circumstances of his d*ath, looking for clues as to what happened. 

Confirmed details are scant, and the community is in shock as classmates, teachers, and parents try to come to terms with the sad news. 

Furthermore, Duong’s family is going through unimaginable pain, mourning the loss of a beloved son, friends, and student who had a bright future ahead of him.

Though his life was cut far too short, his memories will continue to live in the hearts of those who loved him, and his story serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of kindness, support, and understanding.
