Walter Ralph Emery was a Nashville, Tennessee-born American country music disc jockey, radio and television broadcaster. Emery was dubbed the “Dick Clark of country music” for his promotion of countless talents on his radio and television broadcasts. 

In the late 1960s, he presented Seventeenth Avenue South (named after a street on Nashville’s legendary Music Row of recording studios), a late-afternoon program on WSM-TV with the same premise. 

Emery created The Nashville Show, a free weekly webcast with Shotgun Red as co-host, in October 2005. In mid-2007, he returned to television on the RFD-TV cable network, doing interviews on Ralph Emery Live. Every Monday at 7:00 pm Eastern, the show is broadcast live.

As previously stated, Joy Emery is the wife of famous DJ Ralph Emery. Moreover, Ralph Emery and his gorgeous wife Joy Emery married in 1967. He was formerly married to Skeeter Davis, a late country music star.

Ralph found his true love, Joy, with whom he would spend the rest of his life. Joy and Ralph tied the knot in 1967.

Ralph Emery loved his family and died on January 15, 2022, at 88, leaving behind his wife, three sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Walter Ralph Emery had joyful moments on his grandparents’ farm. Still, he also had to cope with an abusive, alcoholic father, an irresponsible, unloving stepfather, and a mother who suffered a mental breakdown after years of working multiple jobs to make ends meet. 

The radio gave a respite from his daily struggles. Emery remarked, “Radio became my substitute family.”

Emery worked as an usher at a movie theater in downtown Nashville as a teenager, then as a stock boy at Kroger. He rose to national prominence as the presenter of the syndicated television music series Pop.

He used his savings to attend a broadcasting school by famed Nashville radio personality John R. (John Richbourg). “I trained and practiced, at school and home,” Emery recounted, “talking and listening to myself very hard to rid my speech.”
