He suffered a hand injury that delayed his NHL debut with the Sharks. He was also named team captain for a preseason game with the Battalion at that time.
Goodrow also sustained an upper-body injury during a game against the St. Louis Blues and finished the regular season with seven goals and seven assists in 47 games.

Growing up in Aurora, Goodrow started playing ice hockey at age five and continued playing for the Aurora Tigers AA teams.
He later joined the AAA minor ice hockey teams in Richmond Hill and the York Simcoe Express, helping them win three Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) championships in five years.
At 15, he finished second in OMHA/Eastern AAA Hockey League, scoring 67 goals and 47 assists for 114 points in 71 games while playing with the York Simcoe Express.
