The incident unfolded at the Witmer Road railroad crossing at River Road, where Harsimran’s 2021 Hyundai Elantra stopped on the tracks, leading to a collision with an oncoming Amtrak passenger train.
Chief Keith Glass of the North Tonawanda Police Agency revealed that the collision was an accident after meticulously examining evidence, including video footage from security cameras at nearby residences.
The footage showed the traffic light at the railroad crossing turning green, and inexplicably, Harsimran’s vehicle paused on the tracks before the collision occurred.
Emergency responders, including North Tonawanda firefighters, police officers, and paramedics, swiftly arrived at the scene following a 911 call around 7:05 a.m.
